Reviews are the first impression someone who doesn't know you yet gets of you: a lot of people decide who to call based on the stars and what others say. The good news is that getting more reviews, genuinely and with no tricks, is one of the cheapest and most effective things a local business can do. Here's how, with a template ready to use.
First, what we're not going to recommend: buying reviews. Not paying for packs of stars, not making them up, not giving yourself five stars from a relative's account. Besides going against Google's rules (which detects and removes them, and can penalise your profile), it risks the one thing that really matters here: trust. A customer spots a fake review a mile off. Everything that follows is honest and works better in the long run.
Reviews do three things at once:
That's why a profile with live reviews beats a stagnant one, even if the business next door is just as good.
For people to leave you reviews, you first need two things in order:
The golden rule: every extra step you ask of the customer (finding you, choosing the profile, finding the button) is a review lost along the way. The direct link removes that friction.
The best review is the one you ask for just when the customer is happy: when the service ends, when they pick up the product, when they thank you. That's the moment they genuinely feel like helping you. If you leave it for «I'll send something next week», the enthusiasm cools and the review never arrives.
Almost everyone finds it hard to ask for reviews, which is why hardly anyone does. But most happy customers are glad to leave you one if you make it easy; it just doesn't occur to them on their own. Asking isn't a bother, it's a reminder. Three keys: ask in person whenever you can, make it easy (direct link or QR) and be specific («a review on Google»), not vague («leave your opinion somewhere»).
For WhatsApp or email, something as simple as this works very well. Adjust it to your tone:
Hi [name], thanks for trusting us! If you were happy with it, it would help us enormously if you left a review on Google. It takes less than a minute and for a business like ours it's worth its weight in gold: [your direct link]. Thanks a million!
Don't promise anything in return (no discounts or prize draws for reviewing): besides being frowned upon by Google, it shapes what people write and strips the review of its value. Ask for the honest opinion, nothing more.
Replying to reviews isn't optional: it tells whoever reads them that there's someone behind the business who listens, and Google values active profiles. The healthy goal is to reply to 100%.
A negative review answered well convinces more than ten positive ones, because it shows how you treat people when something goes wrong.
Reviews aren't a one-week campaign, they're a habit. The business that asks every happy customer for a review, naturally, ends up building an advantage the competition can't copy. So it doesn't depend on you remembering, we set up a reviews kit: your direct link, the QR for the counter or the table, the request templates and the system to ask at just the right moment, without you having to think about it every day.
And remember that reviews are one leg of your local visibility, not all of it. They rest on a well-kept profile and a fast website: we cover it in full in how to show up on Google Maps.
And if you still have one, write to us: we reply within 24 hours.
