It works for psychologists, physiotherapists, dentists, aesthetic clinics, podiatrists, nutritionists… any health practice. The patient changes, but the decision pattern is the same: they search, compare trust and book with whoever makes it easy.
What a patient really looks for before booking
Nobody chooses a clinic for having «the prettiest website»: they choose it for trust and ease. In those first few seconds, the patient —often nervous or in pain— wants to answer three questions:
- Do I understand what you do and whether it is for me? Your specialty, clear, in the very first thing they see.
- Can I trust you? Who treats patients, their training, real reviews and the practice from the inside.
- How do I book right now? A clear button to WhatsApp, phone or online booking, without having to hunt for it.
If your website does not answer all three in ten seconds, the patient goes back to Google and books at the clinic next door. And that is rarely fixed with load speed: it is fixed with clarity.
The six elements your clinic website should have
In order of impact:
- A first screen that says it all: what you treat, for whom and where, with the booking button visible without scrolling.
- Proof of professionalism (E-E-A-T). Google and patients value experience and authority: team names, qualifications, professional registration number and real photos of the practice. In healthcare it is essential.
- Real reviews on display. A health decision leans on social proof, so show verifiable Google ratings.
- Frictionless booking: WhatsApp one click away, a tap-to-call number and, if you can, online booking. Every extra step is a patient lost.
- Content that answers questions: pages that respond to «does it hurt?», «how much does it cost?» or «what is the first session like?». They rank and build trust before the call.
- Visible compliance: legal notice, privacy policy and cookie policy. In healthcare, moreover, with special care for the data.
Local SEO: getting found when people search for your specialty in your city
Nine out of ten patients look for you nearby. Three levers, in order:
- Your Google listing (Google Business Profile), which is where the nearby patient decides: correct category, opening hours, photos, services and, above all, replying to every review. A well-kept listing wins the map «3-pack».
- Reviews in quantity and fresh. Ask every happy patient with an easy link; volume and freshness count more than a perfect score.
- A technically sound website with local content: fast, on HTTPS and with your area and specialty clearly marked. Here technical SEO helps, though it is the foundation and not the goal.
Trust and data: GDPR in healthcare is serious
Health data is a special category under the GDPR and the law protects it more strictly. Handling it well, moreover, gives you a trust advantage:
- Minimal forms with clear consent, linking to your privacy policy. Never request clinical data through an open web form.
- HTTPS always and a provider that hosts the data in the European Union.
- Legal notice and privacy policy tailored to healthcare; the generic ones copied off the internet show and are no use.
Digital ownership: do not let your clinic be held hostage
The most expensive mistake we see: the website, the domain, the email and the Google listing in the agency's name and not the clinic's. The day you want to switch, you discover your brand online is not yours.
Check that you control the eight keys to your presence: domain, hosting, website, email, Analytics, Google listing and pixel. If something is not in your name, demand it in writing.
How to measure whether it works (beyond visits)
A clinic does not need «more traffic»: it needs more appointments. Measure what really matters:
- Clicks to WhatsApp, calls and bookings from the website and from the Google listing.
- New reviews per month and the percentage answered (the target is 100 %).
- Your position on the map for the key searches, checking it in incognito each week.
The number of «likes» does not fill the calendar; appointments do.
A measurable benchmark: annapsi.com
annapsi.com is a psychology website we built with this same approach —trust, E-E-A-T and a sound technical base. Its real Google Lighthouse metrics on mobile, measured on 15 June 2026 and published with Anna's permission: 100 in SEO, 99 in performance, 100 in best practices and CLS 0 (no layout shifts). Only what has been measured.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need online booking or is WhatsApp enough? WhatsApp and a tap-to-call number already convert very well. Online booking adds up once you have volume; to start out it is not essential.
- Do I have to be on every social network? For a clinic, the website, the Google listing and reviews come first. Social media is a complement.
- How much does a website for a clinic cost? It depends on what you need; it usually ranges from 900 to 3.500 €. What matters is that it is yours —domain and data in your name— and that it is built to convert.
- And if an agency runs my website and I do not know what I control? Check the eight keys in five minutes and, if something is not in your name, ask for it in writing.
